King Oak BN is a GREAT first recognized event and the Novice course is a good move up course. The XC has lots of different questions but they are all VERY FAIR and they have a lot of confidence boosters. The virtual tour on their website gives you a great idea of what they have. The terrain is varied (some flat fields and some hills) with both woods and fields, jumps that go from light to dark and dark to light. The novice has water, a bank and a ditch. BN does not ask these questions.

The stadium is also fair but may be considered more challenging because the field is not level but is gently rolling. They did use the large sand ring at least once and the corners were a bit tighter than what I am personally used to at an event.

The dressage rings are both sand and grass. The event is well established, professional and definitely worth the trip.

This is a very well organized event.

The cross country is well built, inviting and great for moving up. I liked the past courses better before some of the land got developed. The fences are closer together now, but we will see if they can fix it for 2006.

The stadium can be tricky since it is on sloping grass, but I would much prefer this to them trying to put it in the FEI dressage ring...too cramped.

This is a very good event to start your season in the spring.
